Concept:

This theme will seek to help children see themselves as integrally interconnected with their natural world. Children will become aware of plants and animals using their senses during a number of expeditions outdoors into the garden. They will ‘catch a patch’, by finding their own patch in the garden for detailed observation. They will interview a gardener and help make observations of insects and their garden animals.

You can support your child’s development in this theme by taking them on excursions in your own community to explore other local animal and plant life. Encourage your child to talk about what they see and feel. Support their verbal development as they try to give description of different garden life like fluttering butterflies, chirping crickets and wiggling worms. Help them create questions about what they want to learn more about.
