Concept: The theme starts with creating awareness about the word ‘animals’. During this theme, children are exposed to different types of animals: pet, farm, wild, aquatic and birds. Discussions are catered around creating awareness about the similarities and differences between the animals and us. Comparisons are made amongst animals too to let the children know how animals differ from each other in terms of their habitats, their eating habits and physical characteristics. Activities are planned around providing hands-on-experience for children to learn from, for example:
• Creating a jungle effect and making the children walk through the jungle to meet the jungle animals.
• Making animal masks and engaging in pretend play.
• Narrating animal stories.
• Planning for variety of art and craft and music and movement activities.
